Kristina Surkova
Psychologist
Real change begins not when we fix what’s broken, but when we listen to what our discomfort is trying to teach us.
In the space between reaction and awareness, we reclaim our choices – and with them, the quiet power to shape our lives on new terms.
What I Stand By
Anxiety
Anxiety can feel overwhelming and hard to control, especially in cases like Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). We work together to understand its roots and reduce its impact. Step by step, you’ll learn tools to manage fear and regain calm.
Phobias
Phobias are intense, persistent fears that can interfere with daily functioning. We identify the triggers and reduce the anxiety response through evidence-based methods. The goal is to help you regain a sense of control in these situations.
Depression
Depression is a complex mental health disorder that can significantly affect emotional, cognitive, and physical functioning. It may require long-term treatment and a combination of therapeutic and medical support.
Addictions
Addiction is marked by a repeated reliance on substances or behaviors despite negative outcomes. It often involves patterns of compulsive behavior that are difficult to change without support.
Identity Crisis
Uncertainty about values, roles, or sense of self may arise during periods of change or instability. This internal conflict can affect decision-making, relationships, and overall well-being.
Self-Esteem
How we value and perceive ourselves influences confidence and motivation. Low self-esteem can cause negative self-talk, social hesitation, and challenges in pursuing goals, which may limit personal growth.
What I Work With
About Me
My name is Kristina Surkova. I’m a licensed psychologist with a master’s degree in psychology. I assist clients in identifying and transforming persistent psychological patterns that interfere with their well-being and personal growth, helping them develop greater clarity, emotional balance, and self-awareness.
Using structured, evidence-based approaches, I tailor the process to each client’s unique context. We work on understanding specific cognitive and emotional mechanisms that maintain difficulties, and gradually replace them with adaptive strategies.
I view therapy as a collaborative journey, where I support the development of practical tools and internal resources necessary to face life’s challenges with increased confidence and autonomy.
I conduct therapy sessions in English and Russian.
Education
I completed my Master’s degree in Psychology in 2016 in Moscow. After relocating to Austria, I went through additional theoretical and practical training as required by Austrian regulations in order to obtain my professional license. I am now a licensed psychologist in Austria. (GISA-Number: 38288746)
To broaden my expertise and work effectively with a wide range of clients, I have completed certified trainings in:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Schema Therapy
- Gestalt Therapy
- Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT)
- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
I attend regular supervision to reflect on my practice and maintain professional standards.
Methods
I use an integrative approach, selecting therapeutic methods depending on the issues we are working on. In most cases, my work is based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), an evidence-based approach known for its high effectiveness. Its methods are measurable, structured, and supported by a large body of scientific research.
(Click here to learn more about CBT)CBT combines well with Schema Therapy, which helps identify and change deep-rooted emotional and behavioral patterns. This integration allows us to work both on reducing current symptoms and on transforming the underlying psychological structures that maintain them.
(Click here to learn more about Schema Therapy)Depending on the client’s needs, I also integrate techniques from other therapeutic modalities such as Gestalt Therapy, EMDR, TA (Transactional Analysis), and REBT (Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy).
My approach combines reflection with action, helping you move from insight to real, sustainable change.
